According to a report, there are now more than 6.1 million confirmed cases across 213 countries with the death toll almost reaching 371,000 worldwide, and 2.7 million cases are reported as recovered from the Coronavirus-infection.

The USA now has the highest number of cases than anywhere else with 1.8 million infected and death cases rising to 105,500 making it the epicenter, surpassing China where the infection first began. China now claims that it has completely controlled the outbreak and is returning back to its normal state with the country reopening its wet market against the world’s opposition.

Brazil, Russia, Spain, the UK, and Italy have the highest recorded cases outside China with 499,966, 405,843, 286,308, 272,826 & 232,664 respectively. The cities look apocalyptic in these countries as the busiest streets and public-gathering places are completely deserted due to the fear of this pandemic. The US government has approved an $8.3 billion emergency spending bill to fight the infection and President Trump has proposed a $2.2 trillion economic rescue package with probably $1000 direct payments to American individuals and aid to business & health services to leverage the dropping economy of the country. The G20 Countries have pledged $5 Trillion for the global economy to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coronavirus (CoV) Outbreak in China and its fear of contamination around the world has made the global tensions to reach its tipping point.

According to the TOI reports, there are now 70,000+ documented cases, and more than 1700 people died of this monstrous infection, the count is rising rapidly with every passing day.

96% of the cases are centered in China and the remaining 4% has been found in Japan, Singapore, the US, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Australia, Taiwan, South Korea,  Malaysia, France, Canada, Vietnam, Nepal, Cambodia, Germany, India, the Philippines, UAE, Finland, and Sri Lanka. A 44-year-old man died of the coronavirus infection in the Philippines on 2nd February and this is the 1st ever coronavirus-infection related death reported outside China.

According to CNN, Singapore, and Japan have recorded the highest outbreaks next to China with more than 400 COVID-19 infection cases since the quarantined Diamond Prince cruise ship docked in the port of Japan.

The Chinese officials reported on Friday that the rate of positive cases of Coronavirus infection has multiplied more than ten-fold within a week. They also added that they had recorded the highest death toll in 24 hr-period.

Mongolia has announced that it too will deny entry to visitors from China and close its borders temporarily due to an escalation of restrictions on China travel by the Southeast Asian Transportation Hub.

The US department of state has informed its citizens to temporarily avoid travel to China by setting its health hazard level to 4 (or) code red.

70,000+ documented cases, & death toll surpassing 1700 in Wuhan, China, and 100 infection cases in 24 different countries have escalated the tensions around the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Global Health Emergency after an emergency meeting in Geneva.

Where did the Coronavirus Outbreak begin?

The 1st case of infection was documented at a market that sold live sea creatures, poultry and wild animals in Wuhan, China.

The entire market was later shut down and disinfected. Wuhan city which is home to 11 million residents is now on a quarantined lockdown since the outbreak began.

As the Coronavirus outbreak is increasing at a rapid scale, China has built 2 massive hospitals that can house 1000+ beds each in just 10-12 days exclusively to treat the infection. The hospitals’ constructions were finished by 3rd and 5th respectively.

What is Coronavirus?

This virus is named due to the spikes that extend from their membranes which kind of resembles the Sun’s Corona. These viruses can infect animals as well as humans. They mainly target and affect the respiratory tract.

How deadly is it?

As of the current situation, no drug has been proven 100% effective. Although an antiviral medication called ‘Remdesivir’ appears to be effective in animals, it has to undergo many tests before administering it on the infected humans.

The Chinese officials said that they are experimenting with another HIV drug to fight the infection. Scientists across the world are trying hard to develop an effective drug.

Dr. Williams Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine and infectious disease at Vanderbilt University Medical Science said, “when we get a new infectious disease, we learn about the most severe cases first, the top of the pyramid as it were.”

He also said that as the investigation goes on: we often learn there are less severely infected people and even people who are infected but don’t get sick at all…

According to the latest report, doctors in Thailand were successful in treating the infection with a cocktail of anti-HIV drugs and flu drugs. The test results were shown negative after 48 hours of the drugs’ administration. It brings the hope of finding a cure sooner.

What are the symptoms of coronavirus infection?

The incubation period of coronavirus is 14 days. The infected will have a fever, severe cough, difficulty in breathing. The infection causes pneumonia and lung disease. Some cases resembled the flu (or) a bad cold which made detection even more difficult.

The Chinese officials reported in an interview that they are seeing cases that did not meet the usual criteria. These patients bore symptoms related to gastrointestinal, including Diarrhea.

How to treat the affected?

According to Dr. Vaishampayan, supportive caring is crucial. Make sure the patient gets enough Oxygen if required artificially to push air into the lungs.

The patients should drink a lot of fluid and rest while the immune system takes care of the rest and heals itself.

What should I do to protect myself from the Coronavirus?

> Reduce exposure around the infected.
> Wash hands using hand-sanitizer.
> Use the N95 Respirator mask to protect yourself.
> Maintain basic respiratory hygiene at all times.
> Avoid outside meat consumption.
> Avoid coughing and sneezing around the people as it might expose them to direct contact.
> Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth frequently.
> Visit the doctor immediately if you sense any symptom of the infection.
