This is the Fastest Internet Speed Ever Recorded…

Fastest Internet Speed :

In the era of IoT, speed determines everything. And guess what… fast just got way lot faster.

A team of researchers from Monash, Swinburne, and RMIT Universities of Australia had a mind-boggling breakthrough in the ‘internet speed’. They were successful in clocking the data speed of 44.2 terabits per second(Tbps) making it the world’s fastest internet speed ever recorded. This breakthrough has made its way to the Guinness Book of world record.

What makes this the world’s fastest internet speed?

According to the Ofcom report, in the UK the current average broadband speed is around 64 megabits per second (Mbps) which is just a fraction of the recently recorded speed. In fact, the speed is so intense that you can download 1000 high definition movies within seconds.

This milestone was achieved using the existing communications infrastructure along with a single micro-comb that is lighter and smaller than the current telecom hardware. The single micro-comb replaced 80 lasers which in turn reduced the additional hardware reliance.

And this is the 1st for any micro-comb to process such massive data produced by a single optical chip. The researchers integrated the micro-comb with the optical fibers and achieved max data transfer on each channel, propelling extreme data flow, across 4THz of bandwidth to achieve the world’s fastest internet speed.

Experts say that this breakthrough is truly a game-changer as the world is witnessing an unprecedented heavy strain on the global internet infrastructure as the global lockdown measures to fight the COVID-19 pandemic is in effect, forcing people to use more and more data for entertainment, communications and to work from home.

Co-lead author of the study and lecture in electrical and computer system engineering at Monash University, Dr. Bill Corcoran said, “we’re currently getting a sneak-peak of how the infrastructure for the internet will hold up in 2-3 years’ time, due to the unprecedented number of people using the internet for remote work, socializing and streaming. It’s really showing us that we need to be able to scale the capacity of our internet connections.

This technology will redefine the definition of fast internet once it makes its way into the market. “And it’s not just Netflix we’re talking about here, Dr. Corcoran added.

As it has the potential to impact every single industry of the world at a cheap price. This technology by Australia may revolutionize the business chart of the country. But the Australian researchers said that this technology is due for a few more years to be globalized.
