Inspiration4, the 1st Ever All-civilian Space Mission

Inspiration4 :

SpaceX, a company that nobody believed in when it first started is now making headlines almost every single day around the world.

The company holds many first-of-its-kind records.

In 2012, SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft became the first private spacecraft to deliver cargo to and from the International Space Station (ISS). SpaceX is also the first private company that took humans to the ISS in 2020.

SpaceX is en route to achieve yet another milestone under the mission “Inspiration4.

Inspiration4 is the world’s 1st all-civilian space mission.

This mission will be launched aboard Falcon 9 rocket with crew on board the Dragon spacecraft, the same spacecraft that took NASA astronauts to and from the Space Station.

The full crew of the all-civilian mission was revealed on March 30, 2021, at Launch Complex 39A, Kennedy Space Center, Florida, from where Inspiration4 will be launched into space.

The Inspiration4 mission was commenced by Jared Isaacman to inspire humanity and to raise funds for the life-saving St. Jude mission.

The 4 crew members of the Inspiration4 include Jared Isaacman, Sian Proctor, Christopher Sembroski, and Hayley Arceneaux.

Each crew member will represent each of the 4 pillars of the mission.

Jared Isaacman – Isaacman is the 38-year-old Entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments and a world-record-holding pilot.

He funded the Inspiration4 mission and donated 3 more seats to whoever donated the most to the cause.

Jared Isaacman will represent ‘Leadership.

“Inspiration4’s goal is to inspire humanity to support St. Jude here on earth while also seeing possibilities for human spaceflight,” Isaacman stated on Inspiration4’s official platform.

Dr. Sian Proctor – A 51-year-old entrepreneur, educator, and a trained pilot.

Dr. Proctor will be the mission pilot and second in command.

Sian Proctor will represent ‘Prosperity.

“This opportunity is the proof that hard work and perseverance can pay off in unimaginable ways. I have always believed that I was preparing for something special, and that moment has arrived with Inspiration4,” she stated in the Inspiration4 report.

Christopher Sembroski – A 41-year-old US AirForce veteran and aerospace industry employee.

He will look after science experiments, manage payload, and communication system onboard the spacecraft.

Christopher Sembroski represents ‘Generosity.

“Although I’ve been fortunate to have spent years in the aerospace industry. I never imagined having the opportunity to reach the stars,” he stated in a report.

Hayley Arceneaux – A 29-year-old physician assistant at St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital.

In her childhood, she was diagnosed with bone cancer at St. Jude Hospital, the same hospital she is working in now. She will serve as a Medical officer aboard the spacecraft.

Hayley will represent the ‘Hope’ of the mission.

All crew members are undergoing vigorous training in SpaceX’s astronaut – the training center.

The training includes spacesuit and Spacecraft ingress and egress exercises, emergency preparedness, and partial-mission and full-mission simulations.

This mission is expected to launch by the end of the year 2021 and will have a duration of approximately 3 days orbiting the earth.

The Dragon spacecraft will target to reach 540-km orbit, higher than any manned-mission. Once the mission is completed, the capsule will land off the coast of Florida.

Here are the milestone achieved by SpaceX :

> 2008 – Falcon 1 became the 1st non-government/privately developed liquid fuel rocket to touch earth orbit.
> 2012 – Dragon spacecraft became the 1st private spacecraft to reach the ISS.
> 2015 – Falcon 9, the world’s 1st orbital-class reusable rocket delivered 11 communication satellites to the orbit.
> 2016 – Falcon 9 rocket launched to the ISS with Dragon spacecraft and the rocket’s 1st stage descended and landed safely on SpaceX’s “Of Course I Still Love You” drone ship.
> 2017 – Falcon 9 was reused to deliver the payload to ISS and its first stage safely returned back to earth the 2nd time.
> 2018 – Falcon Heavy, capable of carrying massive payloads and support missions to the Moon or Mars made its 1st successful launch to the orbit. 2 of its 3 boosters successfully landed back on earth.
Falcon Heavy is now the world’s most powerful rocket in operation.
> 2019 – Dragon became the 1st American spacecraft to autonomously dock with the ISS.
> 2020 – After the successful demonstration of crewed missions to and from the Space station, NASA certified cleared SpaceX for future space missions. SpaceX is the 1st private company in the world to achieve this milestone.
