At Snapdragon Tech Summit 2021, Qualcomm revealed its big move to enter the ever-expanding gaming world by announcing the launch of the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 microchip exclusively for portable Android gaming devices.
Qualcomm stands as the biggest chip supplier in the world for Android smartphones, and now it looks like the company has decided to strongly establish its mark in the world of games.
It has been revealed Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chip will make its debut in a portable gaming device manufactured by Razer. The device will have a 6.65-inch screen with a built-in controller similar to that of Nintendo’s.
Production of chips to satisfy the demand of the world has been a real challenge for semiconductor companies since the beginning of the pandemic as every activity was halted. The impact resonated throughout the world, from halting/delaying the production of cars to the rise in the prices of smart devices.
But with the launch of Snapdragon 3Gx by Qualcomm, it looks like the sector is recovering faster than predicted. Mobile gaming accounts for up to $90 billion which is less than half of the total gaming revenue.
The rapid rise in gaming consoles demand has made every single company to ramp up their production and go as big as possible by taking advantage to provide max power for a more realistic and smoother gaming experience for their users.
Chip producer AMD is making the processors for Microsoft Series X, and Sony PlayStation 5. The upcoming Steam Deck, a handheld gaming console, will also have an AMD processor at its core.
And the company stated that it has witnessed higher-than-expected revenue due to the spiking demand.

Qualcomm stated that the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 is the window to see its future next-gen portable gaming consoles that will have 5G connectivity, webcam live-streaming option, and other upgraded features that other companies are working on right now.
Complete hardware details on the device aren’t available yet, but Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 will have features similar to that of the Oculus Quest 1 VR headset’s processor.
Qualcomm’s target with Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 is to support the display of up to 144 frames per second and 10-bit HDR with Adreno GPU.
